Well, after 15 years devoted to personal growth and expanding my knoweldge in nutrition and holistic wellness, I have finally figured a thing or two out! 😉

For a LONG time I wasn’t sure, but it really is!
And I want you to feel this way too.
As a Certified Holistic Health Coach, Personal Trainer and mama on a mission, my ultimate goal is to provide my family with the healthiest foods and lifestyle possible, and to inspire you do the same. So on this blog, you will find my stories, recipes, insights & inspiration, and hopefully some wit and wisdom infused along the way. 🙂
My mission is to inspire women to take part in the most beautiful and sacred revolution….the most important revolution for creating real, and lasting change in the world….and that is the Revolution that Starts Within. Because once that internal flame is lit, and you learn what not only fuels the fire but keeps it burning bright, watch out world! With the bar raised on how we think and care for ourselves, miracles manifest and the ripple effect becomes unstoppable.

I grew up in the Midwest with the Standard American Diet consisting of fast, processed and convenient foods that overall significantly lacked in basic and essential nutrients (SAD, indeed!).
Reflecting back, it is now quite clear that it was my over-consumption of processed, sugar-laden foods that resulted in a host of negative health consequences throughout my teenage years. I suffered from severe cystic acne, depression, anxiety and a seriously compromised immune system that had me catching anything and everything, and then not being able to kick it quickly or finding myself experiencing relapse after relapse. The doctors would prescribe more and different antibiotics as my body rebelled, creating resistance until antibiotics were no longer effective.
As a teenager, I decided (because it was the cool, hippie thing to do, of course!), that becoming a vegetarian was the way for me. As I started college, no joke, my diet consisted of bready carbs and cheese. I’m talking mac n’ cheese, buttered noodles, grilled cheese and pizza. On repeat.
Yikes! No wonder, when I was 20, I found myself repeatedly in the hospital with severe stomach pains. They thought my appendix was bursting, but the tests showed that not to be so. Without an answer, I’d leave when I was feeling better….until the next bout. It tooks 3 of these emergencies to figure it out….I had become intolerant of dairy. It’s very likely that my over-consumption of cheese caused this. Double yikes. And knowing what I know now, I would venture to say that I was also gluten-intolerant. But it would take another 15 years of nagging symptoms and much investigating to figure that one out. On my own, no thanks to doctors, which I’m sad to say is a common theme amongst people with food intolerances.
The saddest thing about my diet at that time in my life is, I didn’t know that there was anything wrong with eating that way. I really didn’t. And while that seems unfathomable to me today, I know I’m not alone in that.
Luckily, over the summer after my freshman year, I ended up living with a very health-conscious vegetarian couple who opened my eyes to a whole new way of eating and being.
Within a few short weeks of beginning the transition toward healthier eating habits, I knew I had discovered something life-changing. Not only did my skin begin to clear up, but I had an energy and clarity to my mind that I don’t think I’d ever experienced. And so began a life-long passion and pursuit of health, wellness and personal growth!
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a BA in Psychology, because my first passion is to help people move through blocks and experience the richness of life. After college, I spent over a year travelling solo around Australia and New Zealand, a time of much soul searching, reflection, risk-taking and personal growth. My ever-increasing passion for health and living life to the fullest led me to the beautiful island of Maui, where I studied Personal Training and Nutrition at an amazing school called Strong, Stretched and Centered, which has sadly closed its doors today, but forever will exist as a pivotal and life-enhancing chapter of my life.
I worked as a Certified Personal Trainer just outside San Francisco, CA for 6 years, and specialized in strength and conditioning, and sports specific functional fitness for a variety of clients to help them reach their specific goals. I also worked with women both pre and post-natal, as well as supporting them throughout their entire pregnancies.
While I loved supporting people in achieving their health and fitness goals, I found that my relationship with my clients was often one of counselor as much as it was trainer. I continued my passion of supporting people in their growth and pursuit of abundance, personal power and optimal wellness by immersing myself in a year long program called Interchange: A Training in Radical Counseling. Radical counseling is all about the nature of change: consciousness and intention applied to the processes of change, growth, healing, development, and transformation.
It is an extraordinary aspect of the design of human beings that we strive for ongoing growth. My job as a counselor is to facilitate the process of growth that is already trying to occur. Through this training, I went on a beautiful journey of healing, self-discovery, and of reclaiming my power and purpose. I firmly believe the journey is life-long. I know that for me to be an effective counselor and to take people beyond what they know is possible for themselves, that I must make a practice of going beyond what I know is possible for myself.
And so that has become my life-long pursuit ~ to continually dance at the edges of my comfort zone, continually reaching past any perceived limitations, expanding and growing beyond what I knew was possible in the moment before. And in doing so, I get to create a ripple effect of transformative change as I support others in doing the same.
And all of that is what lead me to my most recent studies with the extraordinary Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I was trained in more than one hundred dietary theories, from East to West, and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods. Drawing on this knowledge, in combination with my vast personal experiences, I work with my clients to create a completely personalized “roadmap to optimal wellness” that suits their unique body, lifestyle, preferences, and goals.
My Life Today
Today, I live in Austin, TX with my amazing husband and best friend Kevin, and am an incredibly blessed mother of two beautiful boys, Kyan and Asher. My journey with my husband to conceive was not a simple one, and I feel my journey provided me with the tools to support women dealing with similar fertility struggles.
In addition, I have a son wtih Sensory Processing Disorder, and have seen insanely dramatic, life-changing results by removing gluten and dairy from his life. As we witnessed his symptoms decrease, by our estimate around 75% with just these dietary changes, the onion peeled back yet again, and we became aware of a yet another layer of the intricate optimal wellness puzzle. It is these reasons that have led me to focus my Holistic Health Coaching practice on getting to the root cause of what has you feeling anything less than amazingly alive and engaged all day long. Because it really IS possible to raise your family in a way that has you all, kids included, feeling healthy and happy, and thriving to your fullest potential.
