Are You Living Out Loud?

I recently had to pack up all the boxes that I’d left at my parents house when I moved across country when I was 20. (I know there are many parents out there groaning right now…sorry, and we appreciate and love you SO much!!!)  🙂   Anyhow, these were the boxes of all my “memorabilia” from grade school on, and the reminiscing was a really great time.  And yes, if you’re wondering, there were MANY things that I just stared at wondering why in the world I’d thought my children would someday want to see!

So, after much purging, I shipped the remaining boxes back to my home in California.  One of the things I came across was a poster (and accompanying book) that hung in the entry way of my college house, where I lived in with 5 amazing women who are still my best friends today.  The title is, Succulent Wild Woman ‘Dancing with your Wonder-Full Self!’, by Sark.  (and yes, these ladies and I represented that title well!) 🙂

The book explores love, sexuality, romance, money, fat, fear and creativity from the female perspective, but that doesn’t mean that all the men should stop reading!  I really believe the over-arching message is SO FUN AND FABULOUS that it can apply to anyone.  And so I was inspired to bring a little playfulness to my blog today!

The message is about living richly from the inside out, and reveling in both ordinary and extraordinary moments.   It is about living with PASSION, and truly living life to the fullest!

“Choosing succulence is a deliberate act of personal revolution.  It means waking up!  Embracing your true self, studying your patterns and letting out your most Alive self. We ALL have one!”

So here are Sark’s tips for bringing out the Succulent Wild Woman (or Man!) in YOU!  🙂

Bathe Naked by Moonlight.

Invent Your Life Over if it Doesn’t Feel Juicy!

Smile when YOU feel like it!

Shout: I’m Here!  I’m Succulent and I’m loud!

Be Delicious.

Describe Yourself as Marvelous.

Practice Extravagant Lounging.

Marry Yourself First.  Promise Never to Leave YOU!

Eat Mangoes Naked.

Paint Your Soul.

Dress to Please Yourself!

Investigate Your Dark Places with a Flashlight.

Make More Mistakes.

Weave Your Life into a Net of Love!

Be rare, eccentric and original.

Tell the truth faster.

You are enough. You have enough. You do enough.

Be inwardly outrageous.

Seek out other Succulent Wild Women (or Men)!  Encourage the Sharing of Mutual Treasures.

End Blaming.

Buy Yourself Gorgeous Flowers!

Let Your Creative Spirit Rush. Flow. Tumble. Leak. Spring. Bubble. Stream. Dribble Out of You!

Don’t you feel more alive already?! 🙂  I’ll wrap up with a quote that I have hanging on my refrigerator, that really sums this up nicely.

“Work like you don’t need the money

Love like nobody has ever hurt you

Dance like nobody is watching

Sing like nobody is listening

Live as if there was no tomorrow.”

How about you…are you ready to Choose Succulence?! Because it is ultimately just that, a choice!   A choice to see the glass half-full.  A choice to live out loud!  A choice to be vulnerable, open and bold.  After all, succulence comes from your center….that sweet, true part of you.  It is your very essence, and belongs to you and no one else!

So are you in? 🙂  I hope so.  I give you permission to come out and play! And I promise, doing so will have you bursting with stories, ideas, inspiration and love.  If this has brought a smile to your face, feel free to pass this along to your friends and followers.

I’d love to hear in the comments, what are you doing these days to live out loud?

I was surprised to see that this book has not come to audiobook! This sounds like it would be an awesome audio! What I did notice is that there are quite a few other books, and supporting books like a 365 daily book related to this one. Have you checked out any of the others?

  6. Great tips Beth!

I like the “marrying yourself” advice. We can be our best friend when we wed ourselves and honor the nuptials on a daily basis. I had a few divorces recently but feel like I am back together now 😉

You are absolutely right, Ryan. It takes daily commitment, and a willingness to renew your vows whenever life throws those curveballs….which we all know it WILL! Glad to hear you’ve reconciled things! 🙂 It is when we “marry ourselves” first that we can open up and truly love others fully and completely. It has to start within. Thanks for visiting!

One of my favorites is to sing like no one is listening.

I also believe that anyone can apply this. When I am with my kids, I act some of these out and you should see the reaction. They come alive and we have fun with it.

Thanks for sharing, sounds like an excellent book.

  15. Beth,
Great post. SARK really made an impact, haven’t heard her mentioned in a while, so thanks for reminding me of her. It’s part of the work I do with couples to bring back the passion, actually. We all need to remember the passion, the vibrance, the color, the juice that drives us in our lives. Sometimes we have to reconnect to early childhood or teenaged passions to do it, sometimes not. However we do it, it is good to JUST DO IT!
