It’s Time to Turn Up the Heat!

We’ve all experienced times in our lives where we are tested, often to what seems our very limits, physically, mentally, and emotionally.  The outcome is determined by the strength of our character, how grounded we are in our core values, and our personal choices about how we respond to stress, overwhelm or adversity.

Well these past few weeks have been one of those times for me, and while I’m EXHAUSTED, because of my commitment, not just my desire, but my commitment to achieving certain results in my life, I am actually on Cloud 9, filled with love, blessings and abundance, despite the tests and the exhaustion!

You might be wondering, how is that possible?

Without going in to too long of a song and dance, suffice to say that I am roughly 6 weeks away from welcoming baby #2 into our family, we just moved across the country and bought our first home in Austin, TX, and moved in about 10 days ago (yeah!), my mom turned 65 this past weekend and we had already planned houseguests and celebrations extraordinaire for 4 days straight AND to add icing to the cake, I experienced a very unexpected shake up and massive transition in my business that required significant and immediate time, energy and decisiveness.  Phew!

So while I always like to give everything my 100%, I knew that I needed to muster up more than that if I was going to pull all of this off.  And so I reflected on a book I read last year sometime, and it’s corresponding amazing video, 212 Degrees.

The premise is based on the notion that raising the temperature of water by one extra degree means the difference between something that is simply very hot and something that generates enough force to power a machine.  At 211 degrees, water is hot …. at 212 degrees, it boils.  And with boiling water comes steam …. And steam can power a locomotive!

So what does this mean in translation?

It is a beautiful metaphor for our focused actions ~ reminding us that consistently pushing ourselves to make the extra effort, even just one degree of extra effort, can make extraordinary differences!

Watch this awesome and beautiful video to get a glimpse into just how powerful this principle really is….

So you are now aware!  And with awareness, comes responsibility….to yourself and others.

As the video says, It’s YOUR life.  YOU are responsible for your results.

And because I know this, and care about creating extraordinary results…..in business, for my family, for my life, in the world….this past 10 days has been about seriously TURNING UP THE HEAT!

So I cranked it up to 212 degrees…..

212 degrees of Service

212 degrees of Attitude

212 degrees of Leadership

212 degrees of Kindness (and Patience!) 😉

212 degrees of Commitment

212 degrees of Belief

212 degrees of Focus

212 degrees of Perseverance

And like I said, I’m exhausted, but because of my extra, focused action, my cup runneth over! 🙂

I’d like to leave you with an excerpt from the book that sums this all up perfectly ….. it is called “And then some….” By Carl Holmes

“And then some….these 3 little words are the secret to success.  They are the difference between average people and top people in most companies.  The top people always do what is expected….and then some.  They are thoughtful of others, they are considerate and kind….and then some.  They meet their responsibilities fairly and squarely….and then some.  They are good friends and helpful neighbors….and then some.  They can be counted on in an emergency….and then some.  I am thankful for people like this, for they make the world a better place.  Their spirit of service is summed up in these three little words….and then some.”

So what are YOU willing to do today, that you’ve never done before?  What extra degree of heat (effort), of persistent and additional action, are you willing to apply to whatever task or activity you are currently undertaking in order to achieve the exponential benefits that this principle makes possible?

It’s time to TURN UP THE HEAT!!!

Good to be back at your post.Firstly, congratulations for your efforts and achievements and your #2 baby.
I believe that anyone who turns the heat up will see the results they want and may be even surprise at their achievements ( which they did not expect to happen).
To sum it all, when you put in the 212 degrees determination to play, there is no saying what you can accomplish in life. Thanks for an inspirational post…

Great post! Congrats. on the new Baby! It seems to me that all successful folks always have a lot more going on than the average person,,,another saying I know is this ‘If you want to get a job done give it to a busy person’…You are busy for sure But I have no doubt you will come through with flying colors,,,as you stated you are a ‘And then some’ type of person.

May you be Blessed in an extra special way at this time & with an added measure of strength to carry you through to achievement!

  13. Beth,

You are an amazing leader! You are focusing on your highest priorities.

The 212 principle, what my friend, Jeff Olson called The Slight Edge, and Vince Lombardy called “the Second Effort.”

We all have the same 24 hours per day. The difference between extreme success and mediocrity is caused by how we invest those hours.

Pareto’s Principle, aka The 80/20 Rule, inspires me. It is the law of “the vital few and the trivial many.” If we can devote just an extra 10% of our time to the (20%)things that produce 80% of our results, we can increase the rewards by 50%!

So glad to hear it Dan! And don’t let age define you, and don’t use it as an excuse ~ all we have to do is look to the people who say (and display) that “life starts at 60” and such and we know that it’s always a choice! Keep turnin’ it up my friend! 🙂

  15. Great post, Beth! I love this book! It is so amazing to me how that it seems like it is such a little change that makes the difference between success and failure. This reminds me of the “three feet from gold” principle which says that there are a lot of people who quit just before they get to the point of their greater success. This shows why persistence is key.

  18. Hey Beth,

I’ve always thought that it’s relatively easy to be in the top 10 percentile of anything. It’s just too easy most of the time to show up, do what you need to do, and do it with attention to detail and pride in your work.

When it comes to network marketing or direct sales, things aren’t so easy. I think it’s because you’re not really in competition with other people, you’ve got to overcome more things within yourself.

Without that extra degree, it can be a long, tough row to hoe.

    bethallen Reply:

Hey Dave ~ Yes, it is pretty easy because most people aren’t willing to play full out (or even half out!) 🙂 I think things ARE as easy in network marketing, it just requires discipline. It requires putting some things in place ~ a consistent “work” schedule”, an accountability partner is essential, a mentor, time for personal development, and rewards for results, to name a few. Oh, and that extra degree will get you there SO much faster. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

    [Reply]

  19. Great panorama! Perhaps, If I give extra degree of heat in everything that I do and of course, believing in my own capacity and not to think of negative attributes, I have achieved my very goal in life.

    [Reply]

    bethallen Reply:

Absolutely, glad you enjoyed it ~ you will benefit greatly if you apply this principle! Belief definitely has to come first. 🙂

  20. They say that if you want a job done, the best person to give it to is someone who is busy. That certainly applies to your lifestyle at the moment Beth from what you are saying.

That, together with the ability to produce 212 degrees of heat make you an amazing person.

  21. Beth,
I’m with you all the way, here. Great victories turn on little teeny incremental changes. Just the slightest effort can yield magnificent triumphs.

I’m an Olympics junkie, and I remember ages ago that a cross-country sky race of about 2 hours was decided by 0.001 seconds. That’s one thousandth of a second difference between the gold medal and the silver medal.

It was heartbreaking for the runner up. Can you imagine how many times he may have second-guessed his training, technique, or execution.

After that, the Olympic officials decided they would never determine an event by so small a margin, and now they only measure in hundredths of a second.

But every difference makes a difference.

    Thanks for the post.
