Old School vs. New School ~ Is There Room For Both?
There is something I’ve noticed that I feel compelled to comment on, despite feeling like it might be an out-of-favor viewpoint in the online marketing world. There seems to be a common theme that “old school” (traditional, in-person) network marketing no longer works. The story I hear is that this “new school” (technology driven) concept is THE answer for all the failed networkers out there.
I’m not saying that if you feel like you truly gave it your all and failed that it’s not smart to try another way, because if the new way works for you, that’s awesome! In fact, I see HUGE value in the new strategies which is why I’m starting to tap in to them, but I am also VERY clear that old school networking is alive and well!
I’m here to say that there is room for both! I personally believe a union of the two is the savviest approach of all, because you can access the best of both the ‘relationship’ and the ‘marketing’ aspects of this business. There are smart ways to accomplish both with integrity and class, and I guess I’d just like to see a little more respect.
I find it disconcerting to see so many people in the online world making false promises to people that if they failed offline they will succeed here. That’s just not the case! Yes, some will succeed in one and not the other, but some will fail at both. And those are the facts.
The Common Denominator
So what’s the common denominator in the success equation?
YOU! Yes, YOU and the actions you take.
The way I see it, whether you’re successful online or offline in network marketing (or in ANYTHING for that matter) you are successful because you EARNED it.
It’s about investing in yourself in a way that most people are either not willing to, or are just too much in their own way to see how greatly it would benefit them. It’s about constantly growing and expanding, being a humble, life-long learner and believing in the profession of network marketing AND yourself!
The bottom line is that success in either domain is accomplished by becoming valuable enough to ATTRACT people to you! We all know that like attracts like, so whoever you are being is who you are likely attracting!
People join your opportunity because of the value YOU bring to the table. They see that YOU can lead them to the income they desire and the lifestyle they dream about. They see that YOU have effective systems in place that will work for them too IF they do the work.
Online or offline, it’s about positioning yourself as a leader, and then leading!
It’s about branding yourself, providing valuable content and developing relationships. It’s about connecting on a deeper level and really understanding what makes a person tick.
It’s about creating a community that is about more than a just business but is about having fun, making a difference and living life to the fullest.
It’s about taking the time to learn and understand communication styles well enough to know if someone qualifies as a potential prospect to move forward with or not. It’s NEVER about shoving your opportunity in someone’s face, but there are many who do just that, BOTH online and off.
It’s about having NO agenda other than being genuinely interested in people and engaging in authentic conversations. It’s about radiating positivity, energy, possibility and love! It’s about asking smart questions and LISTENING people in to your business!
It is when you become a solution to THEIR problems rather than a solution to YOUR problems that you become attractive to partner with! THEN you can discuss business and see if partnering either in your primary business or in another collaborative venture is a good fit.
Whether online or offline, it is about HOW YOU SHOW UP on a consistent basis.
So show up.
Be a confident, real person with every single person you meet.
Don’t be intimidated, and at the same time don’t be attached.
It’s about you being YOU, sharing from a place of passion and belief rather than desperation and need.
Who is it that you are looking to attract? Be that person, both online and off.
